2021. Poem, Sheep skulls, dried plants from a Somerset garden. Selected for the Bath Open Art Prize 2021.
Speak to me
From the mountains of Andalusia
Arid landscapes long forgotten
Journeys end with a new beginning
A wretched story
Discarded at the farmhouse door
By the dog
Speak to me
In the wake of vultures
Bleached skulls scoured by insects
No Golden Fleece to receive the dew of heavens kiss
Not without suffering
Your pilgrimage from rock wind rain cactus clay earth
And so it is now to change a little
Transfigured into a totem imbued with fragrant intimacy
Magdalena rose hollyhock lavender seed corn silk leaf petal
Ravished eye socket nose jaw mouth teeth bone
White bone on bone
Now a sacred prayer of natures flawed beauty
Amen.
